The Private Diary of Elizabeth Quatermain

The adventures of the League following the conclusion of the LXG film are mapped out in a series of stories collective called The Private Diary of Elizabeth Quatermain, often abbreviated by its author as TPDoEQ.
The stories run as follows:
The Private Diary of Elizabeth Quatermain (later subtitled "Legend of the Great White Hunter") -- Elizabeth Quatermain lives quietly on the outskirts of London and chronicles her days in a personal diary. Shortly after learning of the death of her father, legendary adventurer Allan Quatermain, she receives a letter in which he asks her to travel to Paris in search of some sort of key. When his friends in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen arrive to pay their respects to his daughter, they agree to assist her in this quest.
TPDoEQ II: The Egypt Chronicle -- At the end of the first volume, the League and Elizabeth had settled on traveling to Egypt and exploring its mysteries. They get more than they bargained for with the discovery of a supposedly empty tomb, which leaves famed archaeologist Dr. Howard Carter acting rather strangely. Soon he, Tom Sawyer, and Skinner are all in steady physical decline, and the others must seek out the source and destroy it before it destroys them all.
TPDoEQ III: The Wintering -- In this rather lengthy volume, the League passes the months following their Egyptian adventure visiting Greece, London, and South America. They celebrate their first Christmas as a family, plan the wedding of two of their own, and search for the lost Incan city of Macchu Picchu. There's a surprise telegram, an heirloom locket, pink dolphins, a vile dysentery epidemic, and a virgin sacrifice, among other things.
TPDoEQ IV: Only in America -- After they leave the Amazon in one piece, Tom decides he needs to head to America to sort of 'check in' with the government officials. He invites the League to accompany him, first to Washington, D.C. and then to his hometown of St. Petersburg, Missouri. Something's going on every time they turn around as one of them gets arrested, they all attend a midwestern ball, one of them gets kidnapped, and they all end up attending a wedding that none of them wants to see.
Only in America: Skinner's Story -- This runs concurrent with volume IV and is told from Skinner's point of view. He and Elizabeth are separated for several of the events of that volume, so this story was written to show what was happening outside of Elizabeth's perspective.
TPDoEQ V: Tartan Holiday -- This story starts with the League planning an excursion to Scotland, but their intentions are disrupted by some new arrivals on the ship and a summons from the English government. One of Britain's greatest heroes is missing in action, and only the League can find out what befell him. The events of this story take them through Germany, among other places. This is the final installment of the series proper.
Allan Observes -- This runs concurrent with the entire series; the premise was suggested by a loyal reader. Allan comments on his daughter's adventures while watching from the afterlife. Written in the style of Bridget Jones' Diary, it tends to be very funny and rather snarky. Readers are advised not to eat or drink while enjoying this particular version.
In addition to the main volume, there are a handful of short stories which provide greater insight into other characters' feelings and thoughts during particular points in the series:
While She Was Sleeping -- Set shortly before the conclusion of volume I, while Elizabeth is asleep in the infirmary. The rest of the League discusses what exactly they should do with her. It sets the tone for the relationship she eventually developes with Captain Nemo.
Legend of the Great White Hunter: The Movie Trailer -- What if volume I were made into a sequel to the original film? Lady Norbert doesn't fantasize about that, no, really. Anyway, for fun, she wrote a short script for how the trailer for such a movie might go.
Athena's Twilight -- A missing moment from the first chapter of volume III. Find out just how a particular event came to pass, at the Athenian Acropolis.
Elizabeth's Shield -- Discussing a number of events from the first three volumes, Skinner ruminates on his role as Elizabeth's protector.
The Doctor's Notes -- Dr. Jekyll's comments and perspective on the scene in volume III when the camp is stricken with dysentery.
Behind the Wall -- Skinner's point of view concerning the events of chapter ten of volume III.
Trivia
-
Lady Norbert considers volume I to be the weakest of the stories, and always wonders how it manages to convince people to read the remaining volumes. She readily admits that Elizabeth is less engaging in that first volume than she is later; this is done deliberately, to show how living with the League and interacting with them on a daily basis helps her to feel more comfortable in her own skin.
-
Volume V was never intended to drag out over two years in the making. While it was acknowledged from the start that it would be slow going, because of another project that was being worked on at the same time, other things happened to screw up the plans. The major issue was that Lady Norbert lost both of her mother's parents within six months of each other; she had been extremely close to her grandparents and particularly to her grandfather, and lost the desire to write for several months following his passing.
-
Volume IV stands out in the author's mind as having been the most persistent; according to Norb, certain scenes were practically viral in her mind, refusing to go away until they had been written. This is most true of the lengthy scene involving the rescue at the abandoned mine-slash-wedding interruption, which she could "see" extremely clearly. The viral nature of the plotline was assisted by the movie Shrek 2, which she was watching when she first "saw" the mine rescue, and by its soundtrack, which was playing on perpetual loop the entire time the volume was written.
-
There was originally only supposed to be one volume, which is why the name of the first volume was only released as TPDoEQ. But by the time she reached the end of the story, Lady Norbert knew that it was far from over, even though it had reached a satisfactory conclusion for the story arc.
